How to Setup Blogger Search Preferences Settings [Video Tutorial]
Blogger search preference are the basic and highly recommended settings for any blogger. If you are going to boost your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) you must setup the blogger search preferences for your blogspot site. I have captured a video for those who do not know how to set up these settings for better SEO. This video demonstrates the meta description, Custom robots header tags and Custom robots.txt.

Setting Up the Blogger Search Preferences

  1. Go to the blogger dashboard > Settings  > Search Presences.
  2. At the top of the page you will see the Meta Description option. Click the edit button and select yes .
  3. Enter your blogger description about 150 characters and click save changes.

Crawlers and indexing

Now just beneath the Crawlers and indexing you will see two options Custom robots header tags and Custom robots.txt.
Click the edit button on the first option and select yes.
Now enter the Custom robots. txt file and click save changes.

Disallow:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Allow: /
Sitemap: http://farooqahmadbhat.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml
Note: Replace the http://farooqahmadbhat.blogspot.com with your own blogger address.


  • Now jump to the second option and click the edit button and select yes.

Here you have to follow the carefully. You will see the three options Homepage, Archive and Search pages and Default for Posts and Pages.
Under each of the options, select the All and Noopd. Finally click save Changes.

Submit Blogger Sitemap to Google and Bing with Practical Examples
Submitting your sitemap to Google and Bing is not only a great way to make your contents visible on the web but it makes it clear that you are the owner of the Blogger or Website. Here is an easy tutorials how to submit your sitemap to Google and Bing.


Submitting Your Sitemap to Google

1. Go to Google Webmasters Tools https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en
Click Add A Property > Enter your blogger homepage URL in the text field (ScreenShot)
Note: In your living in India, your blogger will redirect to .in domain, in case if your from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Australia, Canada etc. make sure to replace the country pacific domain with .com.

Click Add button.

Now you will see the new page like this

2. Click the HTML tag option and you will see google verification html code. Copy the code and go to your Blogger > Template > Edit HTML and paste the code below the <head> tag and click Save Template.

3. Go back to Google Webmasters Tools and click Verify. (ScreenShot)

When you press the verify button, you will see a success message Congratulations, you have successfully verified your ownership of http://yourblog.blogspot.com/ and click continue.

4. Go back to your blogger Dashboard > Settings > Search Preferences (ScreenShot)

Add a site description at number 4 and write a description for your blogger.
5. Proceed to number 5 and click Edit > select yes and enter the below codes in the box and click save.
User-agent: Mediapartners-Google
Disallow: User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Allow: / Sitemap: http://yourblogURL.blogspot.com/sitemap.xml

Replace the blue text with your blogger URL.

6. Go back to Google Webmasters Tools and click the Crawl > Sitemaps > Add/Test Sitemap 
Now you will see your blogger URL and next to it an empty text box. enter sitemap.xml in the box and hit Submit and that's it.

Submit your Blogger Sitemap to Bing

To submit your blogger sitemap to bing, you need a microsoft account like [email protected]
1. Go to Bing Webmasters Tools > Add a Site > Enter your blogger URL  > Click Add. (ScreenShot)

2. Now the Bing will ask you to add a sitemap. Enter sitemap.xml in the second box and click Add. (ScreenShot)
